Quick answer

An in-clinic teeth whitening session in Korea takes about 60–90 minutes, so one session fits into a free half-day in Seoul. Many clinics also sell courses of 2–3 sessions about a week apart, which only fit a longer stay. Some sensitivity can last a day or two. Whitening only lightens natural teeth: crowns, veneers and fillings keep their color, so the dentist checks those first. Prices depend on the clinic and the method and are confirmed at the consultation.

Teeth whitening in Korea is done in a dental clinic, and one session needs no recovery time, so you can go sightseeing the same afternoon. The practical questions come next. How long will it take, what should the quote include, and is whitening even the right choice for my teeth? This guide is for travelers thinking about whitening during a few days in Seoul, as of November 2026.

How long does teeth whitening take in Korea?

About 60–90 minutes per session. Plan a free half-day so you are not rushing. Many Korean clinics sell whitening as a course of 2–3 sessions about a week apart; if you are in Seoul for only a few days, ask the dentist what a single session can do for your teeth before you book. More detail is on our teeth whitening page.

StepWhat happensTime
Check-upThe dentist looks at your teeth, fillings and crowns, and records your current shadePart of the visit
Scaling (if needed)Plaque and surface stains are cleaned off firstAdds time to the visit
WhiteningGel is applied in the clinic, often activated with a light (what clinics call "laser whitening")60–90 minutes per session
AfterShade check and aftercare instructionsA few minutes

Book it early in the trip rather than on your last morning. If your teeth feel sensitive, you still have a day or two to settle before the flight.

Whitening, scaling or veneers: which one do you need?

Whitening if your natural teeth are evenly shaped and you only want them lighter. Scaling if the color is mostly surface stains and tartar. Veneers if you want to change shape and color together, or if the teeth you want lighter are already crowned or filled.

OptionWhat it changesVisitsGood for
ScalingRemoves tartar and surface stains1Coffee and tea stains, a routine clean
WhiteningLightens natural enamel1, or a course of 2–3Even teeth that look yellow or dull
VeneersCovers the front surface to change shape and colorMore than 1Chips, gaps, uneven color, existing fillings

Veneers are a bigger decision: the tooth surface is usually prepared, and you need time between visits. Read our veneers guide before asking for a quote, and plan a longer stay if you are considering them.

What should the quote include?

The method, the number of sessions, and what else is in the price. Two quotes that both say "whitening" can mean very different things.

  1. Method: in-clinic whitening, take-home trays, or both. Take-home trays need impressions, which can add a visit.
  2. Sessions: one session or a course of several.
  3. Included: scaling, the shade check, and VAT.

We put the quotes from the clinics you ask about into one table with these three lines, so you can compare them side by side. Prices depend on the clinic and are confirmed at the consultation.

Does it hurt, and what should you avoid afterwards?

Sensitivity for a day or two is common, mostly with cold food and drinks. Tell the dentist beforehand if your teeth are already sensitive.

Many dentists ask you to avoid strongly colored food and drinks for about 24–48 hours afterwards, such as coffee, tea, red wine and curry, and to skip smoking. Ask for the instructions in writing so you can follow them once you are home.

Which clinics can you contact in English?

These three dental clinics in Gangnam have English pages (checked November 2026) and list whitening, veneers and implants. Registration to treat international patients can be looked up by clinic name on Medical Korea, the Korea Health Industry Development Institute site; our license check guide shows the steps.

Where should you stay?

Near Gangnam Station, so the clinic is a short walk or one or two subway stops away. UH Flat Signature Gangnam is about five minutes on foot from Gangnam Station Exit 1, with a washing machine and cooking space if you are staying a week for veneers.

Questions people ask

How long does teeth whitening take in Korea?

One in-clinic session takes about 60–90 minutes. Many clinics recommend 2–3 sessions about a week apart, so on a short trip ask what one session can do for your teeth. If your teeth need cleaning first, the clinic may do a scaling before the whitening.

How much is teeth whitening in Korea?

It depends on the clinic, the method and the number of sessions, and the price is confirmed at the consultation. Ask for a written quote that names the method, the number of sessions and whether scaling and VAT are included.

Will whitening change the color of my crowns or veneers?

No. Whitening gel only lightens natural tooth enamel. Crowns, veneers and tooth-colored fillings stay the same shade, which is why the dentist checks them before you start.

Does teeth whitening hurt?

Sensitivity for a day or two is common, especially with cold drinks. Tell the dentist if your teeth are already sensitive, so they can adjust the treatment.

Can I talk to the clinic in English?
